Access to the Throne of God. That is the whole point. We have seen how God uses the Word to help us enter into His rest. In another chapter, using the same text in Hebrews 4 we talked about our Great High Priest whose name is Love, and how He helps us to rest in God. In this chapter, we will examine how through the ministry of the Bible and that of Jesus to us, we have access to the Throne of Grace.

God is not looking for us to be stressed. He is not impressed when we burn out or get exhausted. That has never been His will for our lives. He has provided His Word which is sharper than a two-edged sword, discerning the thoughts and intentions of our hearts,1 and which shows us that we are still urgently in need of a Savior.

So then He provided the Savior. The Savior, in His position as the Great High Priest, has compassion on our weaknesses and prepares a way for us by offering the needed sacrifice — Himself.2

We must not live the Christian life through our own strength. This is the legalists’ error. They are sincere, but try as they might, if they don’t wait on the Lord, they will never rise up on wings of eagles, nor run and not be weary nor walk and not faint.3

So, the “new and living way” He opened up for us4 really exists. The key is to boldly go to the Throne of Grace to get mercy and grace in our times of need.5

When you are stressed, go to the Throne of Grace. When circumstances are overwhelming you, go to the Throne of Grace. When you have problems, go to the Throne of Grace to receive help in your time of need. To sum it up, when I see that I am overwhelmed, in deep confusion or anxiety, it is a sign — I need to go to the Throne of Grace.

Paul commanded us to not be anxious about anything!6 Come on, Paul. This is the 21st century. We live in the age of stress. This ‘not being anxious about anything’ sounds really good, but it doesn’t work in our day and age.

What is the solution that Paul gives us? When we are anxious about something. pray! Go to the Throne of Grace and get help.5

You are not alone. You don’t have to face anything at all alone. You can always call on Jesus. At any time, in any circumstance, in any place. He wants you to live with an illogical peace, one that does not make sense.7 And it is truly easy.8

That is why Hebrews 4:1 warns us that we should fear. There is still a promise of entering into His rest. Don’t let it be that any one of us seem to come short of it. Very few times are we exhorted in the Bible to fear but this is one of them.

He has arranged everything. It is all within your reach. You don’t have to go up to heaven to get it nor do you have to go way down in the deep. It is in your mouth and in your heart.9

But, if we insist on living the Christian life and try to obtain the holiness He requires10 by our own striving, then we should be afraid. Don’t do it. Go to the Throne of Grace.
